Is Your Business Disposing of Electronics Correctly?

If your organisation regularly upgrades laptops, monitors, servers, or other IT equipment, it’s essential to ensure every item is handled in line with UK WEEE regulations. These laws require businesses to dispose of electrical and electronic waste responsibly, and failure to comply can lead to significant fines and reputational damage.

However, many organisations across Gloucestershire still don’t have a structured process in place. Old devices often end up stored in cupboards or storage rooms “for later,” where they lose value over time and can pose an unnecessary risk. In reality, these forgotten assets can still contain sensitive company or client data, leaving you exposed to potential data breaches if they are not securely handled.

Without a reliable, scheduled collection process, IT disposal becomes reactive rather than controlled. This often results in inconsistency, missed compliance steps, and operational inefficiency.

A structured IT collection subscription from SecondLife ensures nothing is left to chance, keeping your business compliant and secure.

What Classes as Small WEEE?

Small WEEE includes manageable IT and electronic equipment such as laptops, desktop PCs, desk printers, phones, telecoms, peripherals, cables, and small networking or office devices.

What Classes as Large WEEE?

Large WEEE includes bulkier or specialist handling equipment, such as large screens (bigger than 40”) or interactive whiteboards, large multifunction printers or photocopiers, servers, racks, UPS systems, and other heavy or floor-standing electrical items.

What Are the Rebate Program Benefits?

Where equipment has reuse value, devices may be refurbished and resold with rebates or account credits returned, in many cases helping to offset, or even exceed significantly, the annual cost of your subscription.

What Does Environmental & Reuse Reporting Involve?

We provide clear reports showing how your collected equipment has been reused, recycled, and diverted from landfill, helping you demonstrate sustainability progress, support ESG goals, and evidence responsible IT disposal.

What Does Uplift Mean?

Uplift refers to the increased rebate value you receive on reusable equipment, meaning higher-tier plans return a greater percentage of resale value back to you.

One-Off Collections

Not ready for a subscription? We also offer ad-hoc IT and WEEE collections for businesses that simply need a one-time clear-out or project-based disposal. Ideal for office moves, refurbishments, or legacy equipment clearances.

Environmental & Reuse Reporting To Support ESG Obligations

Give Your Old IT a Second Life

Wherever possible, we refurbish and reuse collected IT equipment rather than simply recycling it, helping to keep valuable devices in circulation for longer. That means less waste sent to landfill, and a more sustainable outcome for your organisation.

There’s a financial benefit, too. Devices with reuse value may generate rebates that can help offset subscription costs - and in some cases may even exceed them.

You will also receive Environmental Impact Reports, giving you clear evidence of reuse, diversion from landfill, and the positive sustainability credentials behind your IT disposal process.

    FAQs

What is WEEE, and does it apply to my business?

WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) regulations require UK businesses to dispose of electronic waste safely and responsibly. If your organisation uses or replaces IT equipment such as laptops, monitors, servers, or printers, these rules apply to you, and you must ensure items are processed through an authorised provider such as ourselves.

What documentation will I receive as proof of compliant disposal?

You will receive full compliance documentation, including waste transfer notes and processing records. This ensures you can demonstrate compliance for audits or regulatory purposes.

How is data destroyed from old laptops and hard drives?

All data-bearing devices are processed using proper data destruction methods, including secure data wiping or physical destruction where required. These processes follow recognised standards to ensure data is permanently and irreversibly removed.

Do I receive a certificate of data wiping?

Yes, for every applicable device, you will receive a data destruction certificate confirming that the data has been securely erased or destroyed in accordance with compliance standards.

What happens to devices that can't be wiped?

If a device cannot be securely wiped due to damage or failure, it will be physically destroyed to ensure no data can be recovered. All materials are then processed responsibly through approved recycling centres.

What items do you collect, and what’s classed as WEEE?

We collect a wide range of electrical and electronic equipment, including laptops, desktops, servers, monitors, networking equipment, and printers. In general, if it has a plug or requires a battery, it’s likely classed as WEEE.

What’s the difference between the Flex and Starter plans?

The Flex plan is a low-commitment option with one collection per year, ideal for businesses with occasional disposal needs.

The Starter plan includes two scheduled collections per year, along with added services like reporting, making it better suited to organisations looking for a more structured process.

How does the rebate and refurbishment programme work?

Devices with reuse value are refurbished and reintroduced into the market wherever possible. The value generated is shared with your business through a rebate or account credit, which can help offset (or even exceed) the cost of your subscription.

How long is the subscription plan?

All subscription plans operate on a 12-month contract, giving your organisation a fully managed IT disposal schedule throughout the year. At the end of each term, the plan is reviewed annually to ensure it continues to meet your operational needs and collection volumes, with the option to upgrade or continue as required.
